Maine was meant to be experienced wild, vast, and breathtaking. In fact, the Land, Lake & Air Package at the Lodge at Moosehead Lake is exactly that adventure. Over four nights in Greenville, Maine, you’ll explore one of New England’s most spectacular wilderness regions. Cruise its historic waters, soar above its ancient cliffs, and wander deep into the Northwoods alongside a Registered Maine Guide.
This package, available June 1 through October 7, is the crown jewel of the Lodge’s adventure offerings. And once you experience it, you’ll understand why guests return year after year.

Day 1: Sail Back in Time on the Historic Katahdin Steamboat
Your adventure begins on the water. The SS Katahdin, affectionately known as “the Kate,” is a beloved 1914 steamboat that Bath Iron Works built and that the National Park Service has designated as a National Historic Landmark. She glides across Moosehead Lake on a 2–3 hour narrated cruise through the region’s history. Originally, crews used her steam power to tow massive log booms across the lake during the great logging era. Today, the Katahdin is a living piece of Americana.
As you drift across Maine’s largest lake — 40 miles long and 20 miles wide — keep your eyes on the shoreline. Great blue herons stalk the shallows and bald eagles circle overhead. In early summer, loons call across the water with their haunting, iconic cry. Furthermore, the dense forests of balsam fir, white birch, and northern red maple ringing the lake are among the most pristine in the eastern United States. From the deck of the Katahdin, you’ll feel the full weight of their beauty. And if you look carefully, you can even see The Lodge at Moosehead Lake from the steamship, set high upon Blair Hill.
Day 2: Take Flight — Seaplane Ride Over Moosehead Lake

No view of the Moosehead region compares to what you’ll see from the air. On day two, you’ll board a private seaplane and lift off for a 30-minute aerial tour. Simply put, it will leave you genuinely speechless.
From above, the scale of this wilderness becomes clear. Moosehead Lake stretches endlessly beneath you, studded with wooded islands. Rivers and bogs weave through boreal forest in every direction. Then — rising dramatically from the lake’s eastern shore — the 700-foot cliffs of Mount Kineo come into view, their sheer face dropping straight into the water below.
Seaplanes are deeply woven into the history and culture of the Maine Northwoods, once the primary way to access the most remote reaches of this wild country. A low-flying floatplane offers a perspective no road or trail can match. For example, you might spot moose wading in a bog, or a beaver pond catching the late afternoon light far below. It’s the kind of experience that reframes everything.

Day 3: The Call of the Wild — Deep Into the Northwoods
Day three is perhaps the most immersive of all. The Call of the Wild Tour pairs you with a private Registered Maine Guide for a full 8-hour journey into the forests, wetlands, and waterways that define this corner of the state.

The Moosehead Lake region is one of the finest wildlife-viewing destinations in North America — and this tour is your front-row seat. Your guide brings decades of knowledge of local habitat and animal behavior. As a result, expect landscapes teeming with life. White-tailed deer, beaver, river otter, red fox, snowshoe hare, wood duck, and common loon are regular sightings. With luck, you may catch a glimpse of a bald eagle — or the star of the show, a North American moose. Standing up to 7 feet tall and weighing as much as 1,500 pounds, moose are extraordinary to encounter in the wild. In fact, the Greenville area is among the best places in the world to see them.
The flora of the Northwoods is equally remarkable. Wild blueberries, trillium, and Jack-in-the-pulpit carpet the forest floor. In addition, towering white pines — some over 100 feet tall — stand as testimony to this forest’s age and health. Your guide will help you read the landscape, pointing out animal tracks, beaver-felled trees, and the subtle signs of a wilderness always, quietly, in motion.
As the afternoon deepens into evening, your guide will cook you a dinner of steak or salmon over an open fire. It’s one of those rare meals that tastes like nowhere else on earth. Afterward, end the day back at the lodge, sitting by the firepit under the Maine Dark Skies. We’ll be happy to get you a cocktail or one of our famous S’mores kits to make your night complete.
Bonus Activity: Hike Mount Kineo
As a special bonus, the Land, Lake & Air Package includes everything you need for a self-guided hike on Mount Kineo — a trail guide, detailed history sheet, and a gourmet picnic lunch that our exceptional culinary team at 368 Maine Restaurant prepares fresh for you.
Mount Kineo is one of Maine’s most distinctive natural landmarks. It rises from a peninsula jutting into the center of Moosehead Lake. From there, its summit rewards hikers with panoramic views stretching for miles in every direction. The mountain consists of rhyolite, a volcanic rock so fine-grained that Native Americans prized it for tool-making for thousands of years. To reach the trailhead, you take a short shuttle boat ride (fee not included), adding a small adventure of its own.
Your Home Base: The Lodge at Moosehead Lake
Between adventures, you’ll return each evening to the Lodge — a property that Outside Magazine recognized as one of the Top 100 Great Wilderness Lodges in North America. Luxury suites, an award-winning restaurant, and a back deck facing the lake make for a base camp as memorable as the adventures themselves.
However, the Land, Lake, and Air Package has limited availability each summer. Don’t delay on this bucket list trip.
